Description:
Apparition of dark, gray or brown points on the surface. The paint by itself does not cause mildew.

Possible causes:

  1. Mildew appears in interior or exterior surfaces that tend to be wet and/or receive little or null sunlight.
  2. Painting surfaces that already have mildew.
  3. For paints already applied, the presence of mildew indicates that the surface was not prepared adequately or the paint was applied on a very wet surface.
  4. Contaminated water was used in the dilution of the paint.
  5. The tools of application are not clean.

Solution:

  • Tests to determine if the surface has fungi consists in apply some drops of bleach agent in the area affected. Fading of the treated zone is indicative of the presence of fungi.  If do not disappear the points of color, probably is common dirt.
  • Before painting, make sure to clean perfectly the surface with a bleach agent. Let the surface to be in contact with the bleach agent at least 10 minutes. After this time, rinse perfectly the surface and let it to dry completely.  In this step, make sure you use the appropriate personal protection equipment.
  • In the retouch process, use the paint together with a product that inhibits the growth of fungi and algae in the dry paint film.  Recol® AP-1 is recommended for this purpose.
