What products constitute the Recol®’s Wood Line?

Recol®’s Wood Line offers Catalyzed Sealer, Catalyzed Lacquer-gloss (colorless and colored), Catalyzer Lacquer – Semi gloss, and auxiliary products such as Recol® Dye.

What are the advantages of catalyzed products?

The products type catalyzed, used for care and decoration of wood, present advantages since the point of view of health (less health risk) and safety related to handling and storage (the products base nitro present high risk of explosion).

What is the characteristic of a catalyzed type product?

The products type catalyzed require of the mixture of two components, to provide the expected performance in the final application.  In this case, one of the components by itself doesn’t complete by itself the requirements of performance for the product.

Which is the function of the catalyzed sealer?  Why is not recommendable to apply catalyzed lacquer directly on the wood?

Recol®’s Catalyzed Sealer contains special raw materials that confer special properties such as sandability, high filler and slip to the wood. If Recol®’s Catalyzed Sealer is in not applied first in the wood, the consumption of catalyzed lacquer increases, and then a high quantity of the catalyzed lacquer is required to fill the veins in the wood and to level the surface, which impacts negatively the cost of installation.

Why is required to use exact proportions of components in the catalyzed sealer or lacquer?

Catalyzed products such as Recol®’s Catalyzed Sealer or Recol®’s Catalized Lacquer are formulated in specific quantities of components to achieve the optimum performance of the final product. The use of proportions different from recommended values can generate problems of performance in the final film of the product.

Is it possible to modify the hue of the products in the Recol®’s Wood Line?

Yes. To modify the hue of catalyzed products such as Recol®’s Catalyzed Sealer Recol® or Recol®’s Catalyzed Lacquer it is necessary to use Recol® Dye, which is completely compatible with catalyzed products for wood.

Why is not advisable to apply several coats of product at the same time?

The application of consecutive coats of product -Recol®’s Catalyzed Sealer or Recol®’s Catalyzed Lacquer- without they have completed the respective dry time constitutes a risk in the quality of the final finish, with potential problems of adhesion or unwanted appearance.

Does the compressor have some influence in the quality of the finish when catalyzed products for wood are used?

Yes. Compressor constitutes a key tool for this type of products.  Special attention should be placed to water drainage in the compressor as well as the filters in order to avoid that the oil in the motor or condensed vapor mix with the product and generate imperfections of the finish as orange peel or fish eyes.

Is required some special condition of surface preparation before applying catalyzed Sealer?

Yes.  Recol®’s Catalyzed Sealer must be applied on the wood whenever the surface is clean, dry and free of dust, grease, loose particles, contaminant agents, moisture or paint in bad conditions.

Are they the environmental conditions important at the time of application of catalyzed products for wood?

Yes. Low temperatures (under 10°C) or high humidity (above 85%) can impact negatively in the final appearance of the film, generating imperfections of the final finish such as orange peel or fish eyes.

Why is it recommended to apply on wood Catalyzed Sealer instead of alkyd Varnish?

The wood, in microscopic level, is an extremely irregular surface and therefore requires of specialized products. Recol®’s Catalyzed Sealer, unlike Alkyd Varnishes, generates a shinier, harder film, with more chemical resistance. That’s why catalyzed products are used more commonly for the decoration and protection of the wood.
