Steps to prepare the place:

The first thing you need is to have a space in which you can work with comfort and safety.  Put the furniture in the center of the room or carry them to another room where there is availability of space.  In the case you leave the furniture in the room when you are going to work, cover them with enough cloth or plastic sheets to guarantee that the furniture is protected from dust or particles.  Make sure to move also the decorative pictures, decorations or other things that are hanging of the wall.

Remove electrical switch plates. Include cable TV outlets and telephone line covers. Make sure you have already suspended the flow of electricity to these work areas.

If you are considering to paint the ceiling, make sure to remove the electric devices that are on it.  In the case of chandeliers or other big size things that are held by cords or cables from the ceiling, remove the cover and paint the area underneath it.  Do not forget to cover the chandelier (or another object) while you are painting.  Make sure you already suspended the flow of electricity to these work areas.

objects that cannot be moved as pegs, heaters, switches, television or telephone cable covers, etc., use tape and plastic sheets to cover them.
If you do not need to paint all the walls of the room, or if you need to paint only certain sections (as the ceiling), then protect the adjacent areas with tape and plastic sheets.  Cover the floor if you have enough plastic or cloth.  If you do not have enough cloth or plastic, you require moving them as the work advances.
Once everything is covered or protected, clean the surfaces to paint with a soft cleaning agent and a non abrasive sponge.  This operation will remove the dirt, dust, grease and other substances that avoid the paint to adhere correctly. Use protective gloves.  Clean from the bottom to the top of the wall.  Finally, rinse the wall with clean water.
Check the surface carefully in order to find cracks, hollows, or other imperfections that you want to reduce. Apply Neutral Recol® Plaster to fill and repair holes and cracks and then smooth the surface. If you need to repair a large crack, use a fiberglass mesh in order to prevent the crack from returning later. After setting the fiberglass mesh, apply several layers of Neutral Recol® Plaster (see application instructions in the section Products) until smooth the surface.
For wood or gloss surfaces, sand them previously to enhance the adherence.  Remove loose or flaking paint and sand the edges of the area removed.  Finally, remove the dust generated from the sanding process.
