Recol® Enamel can be applied on any porous surface, whenever this surface is clean, dry, free of dust, dirt, grease, oxide, loose particles, contaminant agents and paint in bad condition.

Surfaces painted previously or with anticorrosive in good condition must be sanded lightly in order to confer them a matt finish, ensuring the adherence to such surfaces.
If the paint or anticorrosive is in bad condition, remove them with Recol® Remover.
For application on ferrous metal apply previously Recol®’s Anticorrosive.
For application on wood, it must be perfectly sanded. Take into account that for the application of the first coat it is necessary to dilute Recol® Enamel with ¼ part of mineral spirit to enhance the penetration on the wood.
For application of Recol® Enamel on asbestos-cement, concrete o cement, wash previously these surfaces with a 10% muriatic acid solution in water; rinse, allow the surface dry and then apply PVA-Acrylic as primer to seal the surface.
In surfaces such as galvanized, aluminum, tin or other not ferrous metals, it is necessary to apply previously a primer like Wash Primer. Once the primer is applied, apply Recol®’s Anticorrosive and then Recol® Enamel.

Recol® Enamel is ready to apply, but depending on the application technique, it is possible to use different dilutions:

Tool Dilution Used for
Conventional air sprayer ¼ of gallon per 1 gallon of Recol® Enamel o its equivalent. Fast applications.
Brush Maximum 1/8 of gallon of mineral spirit per 1 gallon of Recol® Enamel or its equivalent. . High quality finishes; small or difficult access areas. With this tool a high film thickness is produced with just only one coat.
Roller Maximum 1/8 of gallon of mineral spirit per 1 gallon of Recol® Enamel or its equivalent. Application on large and even surfaces.
Provide adequate ventilation during the installation.
The solvent for dilution is mineral spirit.
In some cases, the dilution with thinner can produce problems such as loss of shine, whitening of the film or flocculation.
The advantages to use mineral spirit are: better shine and smoothness of the film.

With brush or roller:

Apply from one to three coats of Recol® Enamel, maintaining the brush or roller with sufficient product to achieve a uniform finish.
Use natural bristles brushes for the application.

With conventional air sprayer:

Dilute Recol® Enamel in the indicated proportions, adjust the pressure of the equipment and apply uniformly on the object to paint.
Apply as much coats of Recol® Enamel as you need, according to the performance required (thickness of film and hiding power desired).
Once you have finished the application of Recol® Enamel and/or its mixtures, clean the tools used with mineral spirit or thinner.
Cover up the cans and/or its mixtures in metallic cans, ensuring they are hermetic.
To avoid the drying of Recol® Enamel during its storage, put a small quantity of mineral spirit on the top of the liquid before cover up the cans. Do not dilute.
When you use solvents of acids, make sure you use the appropriate personal protection equipment.
Mixtures: Recol® Enamel is mixable itself, allowing the combination of colors. Likewise, Recol® Tint Universal can be used to modify the original color.
